Reverend J. D. Walker

Rev. J. D. Walker, Pastor Biography

Rev. J. D. Walker, a native of Pike County, Georgia was born on February 28, 1941, to the late Milton and Annie Walker. He is the youngest of three children. Rev. Walker obtained his primary education in Pike County, Georgia and his secondary education in Upson County, Georgia. After graduating from high school, he secured employment at Thomaston Mills. He later became employed at B.F. Goodrich where he worked for 22 years. In 1986 Rev. Walker put his carpentry talent and skills to work by starting his own business, Walker’s Custom Home Building.

Rev. Walker was called to God’s Ministry under the leadership of Rev. L.C. Culbreast at Friendship Baptist Church in Thomaston, Georgia. He became an ordained minister in 1967. He received his Christian Ministry in 1967 at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC), Griffin Extension. He has also studied at Mercer School of Religion in Macon, Georgia.

Rev. Walker currently serves as the Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester, Georgia and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Woodbury, Georgia. He was elected as Pastor at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in 1976 and as Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in November 1979. Under his leadership several ministries have been formed at New Hope Baptist Church.

Rev. Walker has served as the Moderator of the Cane Creek Missionary Baptist
Association since 2016. Before he was elected as Moderator, he served as the
President of the Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Association Congress of Christian
Education from 1981 – 2016. He also serves as Chaplin at Bentley & Sons Funeral Home. He is the President of Mutual Aide.

Rev. Walker and the late Ida Walker were married for 57 years and to this union four
children were born: Vincent, Donovan, Marcus, and Yolanda Walker Slaton; ten
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rev. Walker and Sister Martha Bentley Walker were married in June 2023, and they
make their home in Thomaston, Georgia.

Rev. Walker enjoys woodworking, fishing, and boating.
    
New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester is currently served by two active Associate Ministers: Rev. Wallace Steed and Rev. Jonas Ferguson. Together, they collaborate closely with Pastor J.D. Walker to support the congregation and further the church's mission.
